Just looking for advice. I am waiting to hear back from Prime.....I will be completing their CDL training.....I also had some interest from Werner. However, I would need to attend a private school.....they referred me to a couple but I cannot afford to pay for CDL school.....

Just another future lady trucker looking to connect.....

Thanks

Glamgirl...you could apply at your local employment office for a WIA grant, which will pay for your CDL school....but there are alot of good company schools out there, and any way you do it, you still need to stick with a company for your first year....but apply to them ALL !!! then weed em out by what they offer... Here's a link to get you started.. Company-Sponsored Training that will send apps to a bunch of schools.... Keep us informed, and we will help you all we can... AND you need to go thru this training on here...its free and will get you way ahead of everyone in your classes !! High Road Training Program SO start with those...and let us help you..... And WELCOME to TT !!!

Company-sponsored Training:

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

Starcar,

I appreciate that....I will do....Im nervous but excited! I started the practice test and I also went to my local DMV and obtained a copy of the manual....Im going to try and obtain my permit before training. Also, does anyone drive or know anything about PAM transport?

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

GlamGirl, you have been accepted by a very good company...but we have had quite a few peeps go thru their training...and ITS INTENSE....so study here all you can, cuz you are gonna need it..they will not hold your hand...they are all about teaching you everything you need...and they expect you to learn it. Its not impossible, but you will have to nut up, and buckle down, and learn....but ask questions when you have them, and ask for help when you need it...theres no way to con your way thru these schools...And a pretty face and sexy body will not help you steer and gear a semi truck. Its all about gettin' in there and doing it...and you have to have a "damit, I CAN DO THIS" attitude...SELFCONFIDENCE is not important...its a must have. I think you will also be trained OTR by a guy,..unless you have to wait for a lady driver. We don't have any lady drivers in Prime, here on tt.

I DON'T MEAN TO SCARE YOU...i MEAN TO PREPARE YOU; Prime is a really primo company...but they have really high standards...so you have to really work to get their brass ring. You keep us updated...you will be the first lady driver to go thru their schooling....we all want to know how it goes...

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

So I haven't been on here in awhile but thought I would let everyone know I got my CDL on the 31st of January! I am so excited about getting back out on the road... I sure have missed it. Starting with Con-Way Truckload next Monday and I am a little nervous getting back in the swing of things after being gone for 8 years. A lot of things have changed yet some stay the same.
