Paul W was that the SLC terminal by chance. I tookl my winter driving SIM class there and the instructor was a great guy

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

My dad is a truck drive and every time I talk to him since I told him I wanted to do it he'll tell me "don't be in a hurry" even if we're talking about something else he'll just find away to work that in there about driving. During heavy traffic seems like it would be maddening to sit there for ten minutes or longer waiting for a chance to turn, but safety wise I see where you would need to sometimes.

Sorry, I'm a jerk. LOL.

I don't think I've ever had to wait ten minutes just to turn. As far as lane changes go, they work a little differently in a truck. In a car, I used to wait until the last minute to throw on my signal so no one would see my signal and speed up to cut me off. In a truck, I learned it's much safer and works better to signal your intentions well in advance. There are lots of jerks who will still cut you off, but if you're patient, eventually someone will hold back and let you in without you having to force your way in. Other times, if I merge left to pass another truck, I'll go ahead and turn on my right turn signal while I'm still next to the truck so the people behind me know I intend to get back over. This usually buys me an extra 100 ft or so before I merge back over so I don't cut off the other truck, without the cars behind me passing me on the right before I get over.

In city of Industry, California, I had to wait 30 minutes to go 3 blocks to make it to an area to safely turn around to go back to where I was supposed to turn. Luckily now I know the traffic a bit better that I don't hit it much. If anything I run at night in California.

Just talking to my husband in LA, it took him an hour and a half to go 34 miles. Then a 5hr wait getting loaded. That's why they pay more for California loads. At least i hope they do.
