For the last 5 1/2 weeks I've been out for a medical issue and then a nasty infection that I received on the operating table. It's been a bit of a tough road, but today I got clearance to go back to work. I can't wait.
How often has anyone ever heard someone say that about what they do for a living? That pretty much says it all.
Glad ur back up and got thru it Guzinta. Drive and smile baby, drive and just let 'em see that big ol' smile.

Sounds great Guzinta! Glad your health is back in order and that things are going well for you. And a big congrats on the one year of safe driving. That's always a really big accomplishment for anyone, I don't care who you are. Something to be very proud of for sure!

Thanks FloridaBuckeye. Ya know, once you've dealt with all the not so fun aspects of the job and the obstacles that can get in your way and you finally get on the road, at least for me, it's just such a great feeling. how can you not smile!

Thanks Brett. It feels so good to feel good again. Prolonged pain can wear a guy down. Also, I do feel good about the one year milestone, but must not let my guard down. We all know the dangers of this occupation and it just takes a constant vigilance. Even with that, bad things can get you.
It's so good to have this site to come to and get a good dose of positive feedback and reality. Thank you and all the moderators for speaking the truth and not sugar coating! It's alway harder to tell someone what they need to hear vs what they want to hear. Cheers!

For the last 5 1/2 weeks I've been out for a medical issue and then a nasty infection that I received on the operating table. It's been a bit of a tough road, but today I got clearance to go back to work. I can't wait. I thank my lucky stars for the opportunity, and try to stay humble in my driving responsibilities. I lucked out being offered a mostly local occasionally regional gig when I started driving. I get home 99.9% every night. I have sooo much respect for all of you OTR guys and gals. You have one of the toughest jobs out there. I've been at it for just over one year, accident free. Again, I remind myself, stay humble. I love this job, at age of 62. Best office ever! Thanks Brett for this site and all the good people here! I don't post a lot, but I try to offer help and encouragement when I can. I just changed from rookie to experienced, but I try to keep that rookie mindset and be extra cautious. Cheers to all and happy trucking!
Regional:
Regional Route
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
