#2. Everything "on the internet" is negative. So ignore all those horror stories. (I only read them with a bowl of popcorn, for entertainment.)
So when did you get your CDL license? Recently or 5 years ago?
CDL:
Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
- Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
- Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
- Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
HOS:
Hours Of Service
HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
I went through Swift's Academy just over a year ago. It's good training with great instructors.
Bad news: Swift supplies your hotel room. Your on your own for food. Once you get to orientation (that's after 3-4 weeks of school) you start the paychecks.
Other than that, Swift is not a mistake.
Others can supply names of companies that pay you during your school.
I feel like I need to learn it all over again. Still a good choice to go with them?
Swift will be great for your training or retraining. I have seen ads by Western Express stating-"have Cdl but haven't driven in awhile, call us...yada yada. Just throwing another company out there for you!

Hello to all. I have got a problem. I have already obtained my cdl in mo. Istarted my career after doing so and because of lack of thorough training ,too a 5 yr break from driving. Now im ready to go back with a company that will give a refresher while paying me. I still need the training even though I have my cdl A. Can anyone tell some companies that would be Good? I have a top 5 carrier that wants me to come to orientation on Monday but I'm not sure about them after reading negative things on them on the internet . Your help and guidance is greatly appreciated!
