2 nights ago in BFE Kentucky, while in a construction zone, Bambi decided to hit the front of my north bound truck with her southbound butt.

Thankfully we have deer guards on our truck. Not so much as a scratch on the truck.

I noticed that my first reaction was to try to stop. I quickly remembered that in training, the safety guy said "All I want to see is blood and fur. "Don't put yourself, the motoring public, or your freight in danger over an animal. "

R.I.P. Bambi... :)

In seriousness. .... I heard a thump, felt a small bump, and that was it. No need to freak out. You're not in a car or on a motorcycle.

I'm not looking forward to that inevitability. I'll probably have to pull over and 😢. embarrassed.gif

I know but even the ones on the side of the road make me feel sad. I tell myself look away look away... dang it, I said look AWAY!! Breaks my heart every time, and not just the bambies.

I didn't think about that since I have never struck a deer on the highway, but stopping could be too much of a hazard, especially in a truck. Both times I have hit deer with cars, I stopped to make sure they were dead and not left suffering. Hitting one and not knowing would get to me a bit I think.

I did the exact same thing, started hitting the brakes, then remembered and got off them. What sucks is that the deer was in the other lane and wasn't even paying any attention to me until I hit the brakes. When he heard my brakes he turned his head and jumped in front of me.

I didn't have a deer guard so I had to wait til sunup to keep driving since he took out a headlight.

I'm thoroughly embarrassed to admit that I could have caused a serious accident yesterday. I came to almost a dead stop because I couldn't get around a really big road gator. And as if that's not bad enough, when the traffic in the next lane finally went by, I changed lanes...at the same time the flatbed behind me did. I thought they was letting me over but as I reflected, I realized they were probably calling me every name in the book. From now on I'll just go over them regardless of the damage they can cause. embarrassed.gifembarrassed.gif

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I blow my air horns when I see deer and prepare to hit them. They usually run away from the horn. Last week one ran.. then came back into the lane.. he almost hit the side of the trailer when he stopped

In the Sims I almost rolled the truck for a deer now I'm more ready to hit th em

This is one thing you don't have to worry about with a truck. If you hit a deer with a truck it's dead there's no need to stop and check. If your driving down the road and you'll see spots with a patch of fur and some blood and that's all that's left of a deer that's been hit by a truck.
