I would go with Swift, more consistent freight, being the larger company

Kevin, if I tell you my shoes are the best, that means they work for me, but maybe don't fit your feet.

Check out the list at the bottom of this article: Paid CDL Training Programs and make the decision.

I went with Swift. They have a great, consistent teaching plan (all the teachers teach the same techniques) and most of the teachers are motivated in what they do.

The school financing is interest free and it works out that after a year you actually are out of pocket $1950 for the tuition. (Veterans have access to a company scholarship which means it can be free.)

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Kevin, I too trained with Swift, very good experience. Since I continued to work for Swift beyond two years my training costs were totally reimbursed, thus my training was basically free. I highly recommend this path.

Here are past threads and additional information on Swift's training academy

I briefly reviewed KLLM's website and it appears they have also partnered with 3 different community colleges to assist in the delivery of their training.

Happy to answer specific questions about Swift. Good luck!
