Don't ask for hometime do a macro 8nand set it. I have NEVER not gotten home the day I asked and it's usually a day early.

Well I don't know why it's this way but I am having difficulty with getting hometime. I live 3 hrs away from the terminal and they won't route me through there. I asked and I guess that is just the way it is. Any other swift guys with this problem? Or is it an issue with my home terminal?

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

So how late are you for hometime exactly? It sounds like you're over a week late, is that right?

Are you sure your hometime is in the system? You said you sent the Mac 8, but are you sure it "went through"? I don't know exactly how everything works on the other side of things, but I do know that if for some reason, you're not "in the system" for hometime, no matter how much you beg and plead, it's not likely to happen.

Reason I ask, similar thing happened to me my first couple weeks out. I thought we were supposed to get routed home right away--that's what they told us in orientation--so I never sent the Home Call. After a couple weeks, someone finally explained to me that I was not getting sent home because I didn't have any home time set up. Unlike me, you did send in the Mac 8, but it's possible for some reason or another your hometime isn't in there, so double-check by asking.

If you really are officially set up for hometime on the day you thought you were, and you're really over a week late, you need to do exactly what Brett said. Hometime is a big deal at Swift, and it's a priority no matter how long you've been here. I'm still relatively new, and about a month ago I was going to be late for hometime and kept asking my DM about it. She finally got me something--there just wasn't much in the area. It still got me home a few days late, but I found out that they actually pulled that run off another driver to give to me so I could get home. She had to call her boss to do it, but they got me home.

Like everyone else said, a few days is not a big deal and happens all the time. That's why you put the home date for a day or two before you actually want to be home. More than a week is too much and dispatch and the planners know that. Don't ever be rude and impolite over the Qualcomm or on the phone, but don't just put up and shut up either. You're new, but your also a human being with a family and friends to see.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Sorry everyone for not fully explaining myself. I got myself to albuquerque, but they don't have a way to get me home with the truck. I don't have any means of transportation, so I can't get home. I don't mind that it is a couple days passed what I asked, I was already aware that it happens. It just stinks that there really isn't much loads to get up there.

I don't want to stay in a hotel, that isn't home. I guess I need to clear some things up with how hometime works with those that live just as far as me from the terminal. Sorry if I confused you guys, it is easy to do when a discussion is text based.

I'm not sure if this was already asked / answered. Ask if they will let you bobtail home, you may have to pay for the fuel. If not, you're just going to have to get yourself a beater car or maybe even a motorcycle.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
