If I'm wrong I hope someone corrects me. I think you'll only need to take the portions that you haven't already done.
Check with your state DMV. I'm in the same situation with Florida. I hold a class B and they are not making me take all of the tests over. I could not find the info on my state DMV web site and I had to call them. Best of luck.

Hey Detroit, from KY myself and just upgraded to Class A from class B, 2 months ago. In KY all you will have to do for the permit is the combination and any endorsements you may want. If you get endorsements at time of permit test there is no additional charge for them. It will cost you $85 for the permit. Your DMV skills test you will do everything all over again. Pre trip, Skills, and road test.

Something I forgot to mention is use the High Road Training Program. Here on this site and you won't have any problems at all.

Hello, I am coming here from Kentucky and I had a question about upgrading. I'm a Class B CDL holder of about 2 years now and currently a driver for a lumber company. The company I work for wants to send me to upgrade from a B to an A. What I really want to know is since I took my General Knowledge and Air Brakes test when I got my Class B do I need to take them again? I plan on studying hard for the combinations test but I have no problem refreshing myself on General Knowledge and Air Brakes but don't want to take the time if I don't have to. Thanks
