Alright tomorrow I will be delivering a load to Riverside, CA. By the time I get there and then head up to Ontario or Mira Loma to park I will have roughly an hr left to work. Gain 4 hr 32 minutes at midnight. After the 4 hr 32 minute I will recap, well, with 7, 11, 9, and so on. Any suggestions?

Will you be waiting for a new load?

Personally, I would leave my PTA as early as possible so they can assign me a load. If I get a good one, cool. If it's got enough extra time on it, go ahead and accept it andtake the 34. I have learned to avoid setting my PTA 34 hrs out, because they may or may not have a load for you right away at that point, or the load they give you might have lots of extra time on it, in which case you might end up sitting 34 hrs plus however much extra time you have on that new load. If you were getting back 2 hrs tonight then 3 the next day, I think I would take a 34, but you're getting back good hours pretty quickly.

Just my 2 cents.

I vote for doing a 34.

Then again, I run reefer and don't need to take 34s very often since I have alot of down time at customers, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

They don't stack loads on me. I still haven't got that good yet. If anything, I just realized that I will wait to see if something has some extra time on it or just counter a load. I seem to get a lot of loads out of California to a dc of some kind that is usually a drop. I put in almost 3000 miles this week.

I like Paul's advice. I've done resets on the road but never planned. Low freight, extra time, that sort of thing. Keep your logs updated so the planners can see your hours. Then get some rest and be ready.

I would set my PTA for as soon as you have hours to move. We are heading into a 3 day weekend so chances are if you set your PTA for after a 34 you will end up sitting tell Tuesday. If you can get a load tomorrow I would take it and if you have time on it reset if you wan't to or run it. It's up to you.

Oh yeah good point murderspolywog. I totally forgot about that. I got lucky and am already preplanned through the holiday, but I'd be worried if I weren't.

What does ur compnay say? Prime discourages 34s. I get them on home time only. I have 2 hours left right now til midnight when I get 9. They already assigned me a load. I got down. To 8 min on my 70... that night got back 8 and was rolling by the end of my break.

Gonna do a 34 after all. Got a two stop load. First from Jurupa Valley to montrose co and then to denver a day later. First delivers on the 5th at 1200 and the second on the 6th at 0700.

They discourage 34 hr resets too, but from what I have seen it can be our call too. This load can be done with recaps but I don't want to sit around and wait for midnight each day.
