Come on up to the NE part of the country. A few runs across the George Washington Bridge and a few runs through the Boroughs of NY and you will love Atlanta.
I'm Atlantic regional. And yes I run north east occasionally. Still dislike Atlanta lol
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
I think you're kind of stuck with 285. I go through ATL once or twice a week, usually going between Birmingham and Savannah. I'm working on memorizing which lane to be in and where for both directions.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Well there's a way around going through ellijay ga and all that. It's no walk through the park though. Might have to suck it up and stick to 285
I never found a way around Atlanta that I thought was worth it. There are always some country bumpkin roads you can wind and weave your way through for two or three hours but I don't think it would get you ahead of the game.
Historically, going around the West side has been a little faster than going around the East side.
I live in Chatta'vegas, and drive through ATL at least twice a week also, and there is no good way around it, like Brett said, you can take pig trails, but you really don't save anything. I guess the best practice, is timing, I try to plan my trips so I miss the worst part of the rush hours. The real challenge is when I have to drive ATL, Chatta'vegas and crashvile (Nashville) all in the same day.

I live a bit Southwest of Atlanta and won't even drive inside (or on) the 285 perimeter in my 4-wheeler unless I absolutely have to. That said, I drive into and out of Atlanta every time I go on home time, and it's always awful.
There are worse places. But Atlanta doesn't have the excuses that most of those worse places have. It doesn't have big rivers running through it. It isn't in the mountains. It wasn't a giant city before cars were invented. It was just planned horribly, and the traffic chokepoints have never been addressed properly.
The only thing I can suggest is to try to hit Atlanta after 8PM and before 6AM. The traffic is generally less horrible at night.
I'm from Nashville. There are a few ways around the city. 155 and 840. Typically though I'm in and out. I actually got through atl today going about 60 all the way through, a new record. Guess the clowns hadn't got up yet. And as Brett said, the west side is typically better.

I went thru Atlanta about 1030 am and it was a mess, just trying to get over all of the idiots driving on I75. I figured about an hour to get thru town on 75 and it was a nightmare. coming back I wanted to hit Birmingham and figured the traffic would lessen but so much for thinking that. I hit hit I85 to I20 thinking that would be a nice little run but thought wrong. Got on 85 and was going about 55mph the whole wayand then halfway there was construction the rest of the way to 20. Then I finally got to 20 and from there to about the state line was worse than driving thru ATL, went about 25mph - 35mph almost to the state line. Once I hit the state line it kinda cleared up all the way to Birmingham. I knew there was a reason I didn't like going thru ATL, lmao!!!

Anyone have any suggestions on avoiding Atlanta all together? I live near Chattanooga TN on i75. I go through clown town every weekend and it's no fun. I'm on 85s now, wondering if any decent routes around atl are out there.
