Please send prayers and positive thoughts my way on Wednesday, as I take the test for my CDL. It's taken a while and a lot of work to get to just to get to the test. I just hope I can start the hard work that comes after getting the CDL , really soon. Hope I can get my alley dock down soon.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hang in there Sam, You can do this. I know it can seem overwhelmingly difficult at times, but there are millions of people who have been in your same position, doubting themselves, and not sure if they have what it takes. Time and exposure to all the many nuances of handling a rig will do wonders for your confidence. Sam, I still remember when the folks at Western Express handed me the keys to my first rig. I thought, "Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into - I'm not ready for this!" The truth is that I wasn't ready, and neither are most of the folks who are getting started at this, but they can't keep the training wheels on us forever. At some point they have to turn us loose and see if we will muster the confidence and the courage to face the difficulties and conquer them.

This experience you are going through is going to be life changing for you - it means a much brighter future for you and your wife. Embrace it, face it with courage, you are going to come out the other side of this a little weary, but grateful for the new future ahead of you.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Exactly the way I felt last Friday morning! Since then, 2 successful pick ups and deliveries. I was nervous but I pulled them off. Sent all of my macros, Transfloed my paperwork, boom, done. My next thought was.......hey, I've got this! Self doubt is human nature. Keep up the good work Sam

Thanks for the well wishes. I hope I can report good news tomorrow. Really nervous. Had a very rough day in the yard today. Trying to stay positive.

I think it's a normal thing to be really nervous. Considering it's a hurdle you have to overcome, and you've got a lot riding on it. The tester knows you're nervous, so they probably won't yell or fail you for small mistakes. Take your time and try to breathe. Once you've shifted a few gears and hit one of those maneuvers you'll feel better about everything. Don't forget to use your GOALS if you need them. Good luck
