So Errol if I'm putting in at least a quarter tank of DEF at every fuel stop, usually closer to a half tank, it might be something to worry about? (Did that sentence make any sense?)

How big is your tank? I have a @ 20 gallon DEF tank. I use about 5 gallons every 1500 miles if I remember right.

So, ChickieMonster, how'd it go with the DEF question?

My T680 is running at 7.4 mpg currently. I set my cruise at 62 loaded or empty. In three months doing this, I have upped the fuel mileage from 6.5 to 7.4.

It is a 2014 with 350k miles on it. It has been in the shop once when the engine fan clutch went out.

Something I have noticed about the KWs (680 and 700) is they seem to go through a lot of DEF. I always have to put in at least a quarter tank at every fuel stop, sometimes more. Anybody know if this is normal?

I looked into DEF. Supposedly uses 1 gallon of DEF per 50 gallons of fuel. That is the info I found when I Googled it!

I am looking at leasing one of the two and a Freightliner owner told me he can average over 10mpg on I-10 or I-20, I am trying to find out the averages for the newest models as that's what I will be getting. Choices are Cascadia Evolution or T680. Thank you for the help

I did a recovery w/3 loads on a 2016 Freightliner, and drive a 2015 Freightliner a my everyday truck. 10+ MPG is possible with a load, on very flat stretches. If you start hitting even moderate hills or slowing and speeding up frequently, you're going to see a big fuel economy hit. I am averaging 7.3 MPG right now over the last 10,000 miles in my 2015, but I've crossed a whole bunch of mountains in those 10,000 miles, entering Tennessee and Pennsylvania three times, and going into and out of California twice.

I can't speak to the newest models of T680, but both of my trainers' trucks ran around 7.0 MPG when I drove them, and they were 2013 and 2014 8-speed T680's

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I haven't been able to keep track off it for awhile because my fuel card has been giving me fits. It won't let me get DEF every time I fuel. Dispatch and EFS are working on it so I should be able to let you guys know soon.

But I can definitely tell you that it's using more than 1 gallon for every 50 gallons! I'm putting in a solid half tank at every fuel fill now.

On the 2014 t680's it might be the DEF doser injector or there might be a leak. Next 10, look under and around the DEF tank and lines for dried up white and/or crystaly residue. Hope this helps
