Hi folks! I finally pulled the trigger and committed to this profession! When we are Doing our DOT physical, how extensive is the search for a hernia? Is it the old "turn and cough" method or just an abdominal push??? Sorry I am nervous about it and just wondered! I am Driving for P.A.M., and my trainign is in Indianapolis at C1 trucking school through Driver solutions! Thanks!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I haven't had a turn and cough check yet, but I didn't go through the PAM training program.

I last had both a DOT exam with a DOT listed med center, and a DOT exam by the company doctor at Swift. The Swift Dr was more thorough. I don't recall either one asking me to cough with my pants down. Long ago I had a hernia reduction operation. I passed both physicals.

I've been through several company D.O.T. physicals. Each of them included abdomen pushing and a full groping... er, turn and cough. shocked.png

Maybe I've had so many physicals over the years that this question is more like "Do you recall tying your shoes this morning?" C'mon yes, they are tied, but do you remember bending over and doing it?

I usually like to sing gospel music aloud during the physical to help me relax and calm my nerves.

He Touched Me

...He touched me, Oh He touched me,

And oh the joy that floods my soul!

Something happened and now I know,

He touched me and made me whole....

Hmm...Now that I think about it maybe that wasn't the best choice of song considering the test that was being administered

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

When I had mine the dr literally reached down my pants and told me to cough. Not sure that's how it's supposed to be done, but I just wanted to get out of there so I complied.
