So, I was informed today that my application for Maverick was approved. I started the process early expecting it to take longer. I will not actually be leaving my current employer until August. The recruiter said "No problem, just send me a copy of your ssn and birth certificate so I can get you on the waiting list."

I have started the High Road Program on this site. I guess my question is whether anyone has attended Maverick's company sponsored training in Arkansas? If so, please let me know what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Company Sponsored Training:

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

Go to youtube and search for Dale Clay. He did videos all the way through training in Arkansas and is still doing them. He does flatbed for Maverick, and gives a very good glimpse into the day to day life.

Good to hear. I'm currently with maverick and they are a top notch company. We have excellent instructors in little Rock and everything that the recruiter told me was accurate. However, I'm not sure how long you may have to sit on that waiting list. If you don't have a cdl it could be a while before they get you out there. They only train 12 at a time and are not like larger companies that bring in lots of people at once. I'd suggest obtaining your cdl prior if possible.

Thank you, I will look him up. I have read all the posts that mention Maverick, and recall reading one about Dale.

Thanks for replying. I have read many of your posts. I will be reefer for a while, then transfer to flatbed. I'm currently working, so the wait will not be a big deal. If possible, I actually want to time it where I will have a trainer with me during some winter weather. I'm a Texas boy, so that white stuff is foreign to me to begin with, lol.
