Congratulations to you both! I had most of the day off today after using up the last of my 70 hours this morning and believe it or not I actually was wondering about you guys. I hadn't seen anything from you lately and I knew you had been through some struggles. Boy, am I glad to see that you made it through! I always try to help people understand about the possibilities of a difficult training period, but now you know first hand what it might entail. Once you get locked in that truck with a trainer there's no turning back, if they are a nut you just have to figure out how to deal with it. I'm glad you hung in there, cause it only gets better from here on out.
You're about to start in on a serious learning curve, but you'll be doing it together and that will help buffer the pain of it. I wish you guys the best in your career, and seriously hope you can enjoy this new lifestyle even half as much as I do.
I'll keep an eye out for that truck number.
Again, Congratulations!
Very proud of you two! I know firsthand just how grueling training can be. Its a very difficult beast to overcome but it sure does feel good when youre done with it!
Reiterating what my friend Old School said. These first few months are going to be a giant challenge for both of you. You two will have to learn how to do your job as well as learn how to always be within a few feet from eachother. So don't have the assumption that "its over". No, its only begin. Approach this new life with an open mind.
You both will be driving then sleeping then driving then sleeping. It can become very stressful for a couple. I've driven with my wife before so I know how itll be. And my best advice, take a day off here and there when you feel like you need it. Spend a day in the city and just forget about work for a day. Itll help you so much.
Congrats to both of you guys!!!! That's awesome news and I'm really glad you stuck it out. There's nothing easy about getting your trucking career underway. It's a brutal process at times and it tests everyone to their limits at times. But you stuck with it so congrats!
Those guys are right - there's still going to be a lot of struggles, especially the next few months as you continue to learn your trade and adapt to life on the road. But it's worth it.
Hope you guys get some great miles and enjoy your time together! Keep us updated anytime you get the chance
Congratulations to both of you an buying a truck and traveling on it.. Don't strain too much both of you whereas stress can over take your driving skills... Struggles are natural in everyone's life glad that now you are out of it..

My husband and I survived the training by the skin of our teeth. My trainer was a religious nut and spent the entire time trying to convert me and convince me that it is in the white persons genetics to treat black people cruelly. My husbands trainer managed to get himself three tickets and my husband one. Thankfully he could get out of the truck before something serious happened that would have affected his career.
We got our truck friday and have spent the weekend cleaning it up and getting it legal. The previous driver was disgusting to say the least and we still aren't sure if it was oil stains or not ont he mattress but we got a new one.
Due to having some issues getting my eyewear we are stuck until wednesday morning at the very least. I haven't told my fleet manager yet because I didn't find out until he had already gone home. Since I can't drive without being able to see, we are stuck until my stuff comes in.
I am enjoying the time with my husband and even though it means we won't get to go home when we thought we would, it's fine with me. Home is where my husband is. We saved up our money through training and should have enough to live on for the next couple of weeks. The only thing we haven't got for our truck yet is a cb and a tire gauge. We keep forgetting the tire gauge. And the cb is out of our budget right now.
Thanks guys here on truckingtruth.com for helping me through that time. I don't think I would have made it without all the positive support from the people here.
If you guys see a CRST Volvo with the number 5500 that would be Tim and I. Thanks so much,
Mistelle
Fleet Manager:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
