I just started with Swift recently. I'm 56. It has been a grest experience. DO NOT pay any attention to all of the negative BS on the Internet about Swift or any other reputable Carrier. This industry has danm near a 100% turnover rate. Lots of people thst could not cut it, with lots of time on their hands to blame others and take no personal responsibility. This industry chews up and spits out drivers at an alarming rate. If you are tough and disciplined, you can succeed with any Company. Itsall up to you. Good Luck

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

I don't think your age will be an issue. Try these.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

65 now. Started driving 18 months ago. Not a problem with anything.

No company is worried about age as long as you're over 21. Get your physical, get your license, have a decent work & life* history, you'll have a job.

* (Like clean or almost clean arrest record, clean in the recreational drug dept.)
