After spending the last two months in my truck, I never realized how stressful it can get. Spent last night and spending this night at the Little America Hotel in Little America, WY. Feels good to get out of the truck and not think about trucking for a little bit. It can be overwhelming when all I think about is trucking, trip planning, etc. Word of advice to other rookies, get out of the truck once in a while!

What is this 'Outside' you speak of? Is that the stuff I can see in the distance while I'm doing a drop and hook , or walking to the shipping and receiving offices?

:)

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

I suppose to have a load going to New york last friday when my boss told me to get a weekend off in a hotel coz load will not be ready until monday. I immediately called my bf and have him pick me up here in Richmond. It's perfect timing coz he just got back from deployment last week. We spent the whole weekend at Virginia Beach and had a really great time. I've been in the truck for 5 weeks so feels good to be out! :-)

Back from home time. Thought I would post in this thread because it made me think a lot about it. It is good to just get away for a few days. Not think about trucking or anything pertaining towards it. This next run I am not staying out too long. My fellow rookies take a break before you get burnt out.

I'm doing a 34 in San Antonio TX this weekend. Just spent the day Downtown at the River Walk. Very pretty. Uber was $12.00 each way from the Petro. I walked at least 5 or 6 miles, which was desperately needed. Took the River Boat Tour and had a KILLER Mexican food lunch. Good Times.

We've been running HARD for a month straight. Not to mention, the last time we were home was only for a day and we just dropped by the house to pay rent and pick up the mail. We are going home next week for hubby's dr appointment and I tell ya, I am soooo ready! I must really need the rest too. I had a lot of time on this trip. I can't deliver till tomorrow bc reciever is closed. We stayed in Joplin last night and slept 12 straight hours... Still 18 hours early for delivery.

Now, next month?? I still have to talk to my dispatcher about it, but if all works out we are doing something extra special! We are going to be taking our hometime in Dallas and attending the Great American Truck Show! I have already preregistered us and reserved a spot for Teddy in the truck lot. We are super stoked about it and can't wait! We have an invitation to breakfast with a great group of people that I am involved with on Twitter and it's a chance to really learn more about the industry and get to see some awesome trucks.

Bonus, I will get to meet Allie Knight!

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Awesome tractor man. I love the slc terminal because I can walk to everything that is near by. Last time I was there I had freddys and watched a movie. Definitely good to get out and have some fun.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

It can seriously get tiring, but also it can be tiring being home haha. Being from a small town, I am like a rock star to everyone, I have to tell everyone my war stories haha.

I definitely learned how to get home time and I am only going to do 30 days this time out. 60 is pushing it haha...

That is awesome, I would like to go to something like that one day. I love looking at old Cabover trucks.

Man I was just thinking this. I'm getting so burnt out right now I'm just hanging on for dear life. My marriage and health (I have insulin-dependent diabetes) are really suffering right now, and I think alot of it is that I haven't taken the time to just get out of the truck very much at all lately. This weekend I'm still sleeping in the truck, but I have been spending most of my awake time in the Dallas terminal fooling around with the other drivers here. Man we've been having such a blast I completely forgot about trucking for a little bit. I met a couple older guys here too who enjoyed telling a young pup like me their whole life story and showing me pictures of their family and such. I really learned alot from those guys. A couple days isn't really enough for me to recuperate but it's been a good start. And I've had such a blast with the other drivers at this terminal I think I might have to make it a regular stop.
