I'd say it all depends on the company. Some companies won't allow a female driver to go with a male trainer and other companies will allow it. I would guess that with this being a male dominated field, there are more male trainers than female overall.
My company has quite a few female trainers and I was initially assigned to one but when I found out that she wouldn't be available for a week, due to taking a week off, I told them that while I would wait, I really wanted to get going and didn't want to sit in a motel for a week doing nothing. Of course they would have paid me and for the room, but I was so excited to get started. They asked me if I would be willing to have a male trainer and I told them it made no difference whatsoever to me., I needed a trainer and would go with whoever and was reassigned and we left that night after I got my things moved into his truck and organized to his satisfaction. He's very particular about everything being neat.
As it turns out, I'd already met the guy who would end up being my trainer. I had no idea he was a trainer and thought he was funny as all get out, When the other new drivers (all male) in my orientation found out this guy was going to be my trainer, they all wanted to switch lol.. we'd all met him while he was on his 10 hr break at the terminal. They were all like "You are so lucky.. he seems so laid back.. can we trade?" He was laid back at times, but he was also extremely serious about doing everything the right way every time without exception. Best decision I could have made. My skill level improved so much during that training month and continues to get better every day.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Hi Sue! Thank you for the thoughtful reply! I can understand wanting to just get started already (studying for the permit is a loooooong-enough process ;-) ), but I don't want to impose my womanly needs on a strange guy that I would be sharing a space with for up to a month. I'm sure there are tolerable and empathetic dudes out there, though, but being a little guarded about certain things makes the idea a bit uncomfy.
So sorry it took so ling to get vack to you. I'd call Roehl and ask what there policy is. For example Averitt doesn't allow females to have male trainers at all. My company tries to match gender and will if you request it but allows males to train females and females to train males. Being a smaller company, they've not had major sexual harassment issues.
The long waits for female trainers has been with Prime and other very very large companies.
Call a Roehl recruiter and ask their policy and if female trainees have had to wait a long time for an available female trainer.. I sure wish i could tell you more but I'd only be guessing.

Hello! Wondering if anyone knows if there are female trainers at Roehl? I've read in other posts that female trainees had to wait weeks before a female trainers became available.
