Ok as things are slowly getting to be routine in the flatbed world a couple of things emerge........

One is that there are fewer lot lizards than I was led to believe...I talked to one in 7 months....one....lol

Two........IDK what type of problems women drivers encounter with the profession ...but I am thinking it cannot be all positive...although I have personally not seen any issues.....However at a stop in Salt Lake City I encountered a lady in the drivers lounge...she stood a little closer than I usually like.....I am a private person....so I left to go back to my truck........about a half hour later, who comes waltzing by.......very uncomfortable now....then...she comes up to my truck and asks to speak.......here it comes.....I am thinking.....Anyway....I roll done the window and she said please talk to me I am a truck driver not a prostitute....and I drive a tractor that is the same make...I am having trouble with it.....she pointed to her tractor and so I agreed to go take a look....a short while later I got her inverter working and then she told me she shuttles new tractor to their owners....pretty great gig....but it got me thi nking......wow ......she does not get just to chat much do to the perceived ideas..........Then a couple of months later then I saw a lady getting out of her truck....so I though I would just say hi as I was walking by......oh hell no......she did everything to avoid any interaction........lol.....I honestly do not know how to react...I guess I will not say anything unless first approached.......

Three......what is common is the folks that cruise thru the truck stops.......asking for money because their car is outta gas or some such story....I guess drivers are a soft touch 'cause I get hit up every few stops......but since I am a meanie ...I just tell them ...my company only gives me a card...they will not let me carry cash....works great....every time!!! Now if they were starving or truly in distress that might ...might be one thing....but these folks are fat, healthy, and not struggling in their lives........and their car seems to always have fuel...they never want to drive to the pump and have me fill it......lol.....

alrighty then........back to the road and load......

Interesting observations.

Now that you got me thinking about it, I don't think I've talked to a female truck driver in months. I'm not avoiding women, but there just aren't nearly as many women as men out here.

I've never been right out approached by a male driver. I've had some incidental conversations with other drivers at the cash register and such but for the most part, the men are very respectful. I usually have the door opened for me at truck stops and shippers/recievers are always respectful and nice.

I know it's only been a few months and hubby is with me 90% of the time, but I've never once had a negative experience.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Men talk to me all the time... most are nice.

I was carrying my laundry back to my truck and this guy asked me if I drive. I said "no. I just like the washers here better than at home." I kept walking and he pulled my arm asking if he knew me. "If you knew me..you would know touching me is dangerous for your health". I was still in training or I might have felt unsafe... he said "come see.my truck it's an auto...check it out". I told him i have my own truck and I'm more of a.man than him cause I drive a stick.

While in WY this nice guy and I sat at the counter laughing while snowed in. He then paid for my meal and asked how people get laid on the road. I told him "I'm a woman.. I only need to take my shirt off aND whether they think I'm short fat old ugly.. I'm getting laid. So get a sex change and you'll be fine." Honestly I was tempted to do him he was hot and SO my type. hahah

At a customer a driver told me "they said I won't get a door for 20 min. You're beautiful why don't you come back to my truck" I just smiled and said I got my door and added.

"20 min would never take care of me anyway". He kept asking if I was married and I walked away.

One customer told.me he needed to see my license cause he couldn't believe I was old enough to drive the truck and he wanted my gorgeous face to come.back

Another customer an older guy told me if he was 20 years younger... "hhhhmmm". I was like "dude even then you couldn't handle.me. I just gave a 25 year old a heart attack last week" the guy told me he doesn't have heart problems "neither did he... but he does now". Finally a guard refused to.lift the gate to let me out until I took his phone number... then I realized the temp on the drop and hook were not on the BOL and I made him break the seal and check the product hahha

All in all.the guys are pretty nice... some can be raunchy... but most don't realize how old I am.. so I'm not easily flattered and manipulated. I think men were more quick to help me back than they would a man. I think many are just lonely and want to talk to ANY ONE not particularly a woman.

I do get stupid questions though.... "I saw you pull up in the prime truck. Do you drive for them" .. no.. I stole the truck. Then it was "take my number in case you ever want to drive team" yeah ok. I'm going to move in with some guy I met in a pilot. Ok. I've actually dined with a few guys...nice guys. One asked me to.marry him so we could team. We exchanged calls a bit...but eh.

I don't really think any are meaning to offend. I usually flirt back but stay aware of my surroundings. First guy who tries to enter my truck is getting a hammer to the skull.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.
