Matthew T; but did you ever leave your lines attached when decoupling a trailer?
That seems to be the goto rookie move.

D'oh, the tone seems off with what I posted. I meant it be lighthearted along the lines of, "well at least you didn't do this other thing." Instead it seems a tad pretentious. I'm not making light of what you have gone through. I am trying to cheer you up with a bit of deprecating humor, which, is not the best kind when someone is down.
Matthew; you're working hard to improve, and you're not blaming anyone but yourself. I'm sure you've met some people that blame everyone and everything but themselves. Since they sent you to safety instead of showing you the doorm that means that your company sees potential in you even if you sometimes doubt it's there. Believe in yourself like others believe in you, things will feel better and go better. Hopefully, you won't feel as down - because you shouldn't.

I think 9t is great you are going back out. Guess what my suspicions are... THIS trainer is probably one of their best that they give to polish driver with. I bet you learn so much more from him that. Your original trainer. Also... don't look at it as punishment .. it isn't. They are trying to improve you... to punish you they'd fire you.
And to be honest... there is no shame in it. Many drivers need to return to training. I think the guy who had my truck really messed it up and jackknife it. They told me it was in the shop a long time.
My FM told me "get the load on time and do it safely. If at the end of each shift no one is hurt and the truck is in tact u did great"

Nothing much for me to add here, other than a note that you did the right thing.
I will say that it'll suck being in the box with another person for 15-20k miles, but that's only about three weeks if you get decent miles and run as a typical trainer team.
Matt T's sentence:
I will be sent out for an additional 15-20k miles training as part of my penance with a 2-million-miler with zero accidents.
You now have quality time with a master. I believe you understand what that's worth.
People who whine about team driving just don't get it.

When I got off my trainers truck and finally got "my" first truck I did this... I was at our CA terminal and the have a no bobtail off the property rule and I was in a big hurry... Nothing broke or anything but it did get me to slow down and drop the "big hurry" And considering I was headed to LA in a new to me truck without a lot of big city driving under my belt... Probably the best thing that could have happened to me.
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
My trainer almost flunked me. I can't remember the road number but it's the trucks route going from north cal around L.A heading out of california there is a short 6% grade that leads to a tunnel or underpass. Anyway I didn't down shift in time and took the grade in neutral.
Did you keep a straight face and tell him your worried about fuel mileage?
Nope almost crapped myself 6% grade fully loaded. It was one of those hold on tight abs kiss your butt goodbye moments.

YES!!!!
That is awesome news! Super glad to hear they're keeping you around and giving you some additional training. I'm sure you'll take maximum advantage of it. You must have handled the entire situation well with the company and kudos to you for that also.
We all know how hard this career is and everyone makes mistakes. It's great to see the company is going to stand by you and I'm sure you'll return the favor and turn some big miles safely, efficiently, and reliably in the months (and maybe even years) to come.
Go get em!
