Haha I was checking my individual load pay and APPARENTLY I got paid to bobtail home this past weekend. I think it's because I picked up an empty at home before heading back to Denver to pick up my load. When I got home, there was an empty Swift trailer sitting right between my apartment complex and home depot. Odd. I asked around and apparently they had been trying to get Swift to pick it up for two weeks, so I got permission from dispatch and gladly obliged haha. I guess Swift had to add a dispatch from Greeley to Denver and back though, since trailers can't teleport. It added an extra $20 on my paycheck.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Sorry, I meant to say from Denver to Greeley and back

Paul, that's a real can-do attitude. You're looking out for the company's interests. You were treated fairly by your company, too. This sort of work will get you noticed, keep it up and you may thrive.

Thanks Michael! It was mutually beneficial. The real reason I was so interested in taking that empty was that I didn't want to search for one at the crowded Denver terminal at 3 am lol. Shhh don't tell anyone!

But I do have a can-do attitude haha. Turns out the trailer had a broken splash guard, which I spent time and money fixing without compensation from Swift. The drill I rented may have cost $10 but a couple extra hours at home are priceless.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
