Thanks Anchorman, that is great motivation and advice. I for one am not giving up on this journey, once I recover from another knee surgery, I plan on getting my cdl another shot.

Here's another motivational poem for Trucking Truth's poetry corner:

Grin
- - Robert Service

If you're up against a bruiser and you're getting knocked about --

Grin.

If you're feeling pretty groggy,
and you're licked beyond a doubt --

Grin.

Don't let him see you're funking, let him know with every clout,
Though your face is battered to a pulp, your blooming heart is stout;
Just stand upon your pins until the beggar knocks you out --

And grin.

This life's a bally battle, and the same advice holds true

Of grin.

If you're up against it badly, then it's only one on you,

So grin.

If the future's black as thunder, don't let people see you're blue;
Just cultivate a cast-iron smile of joy the whole day through;
If they call you "Little Sunshine", wish that THEY'D no troubles, too --

You may -- grin.

Rise up in the morning with the will that, smooth or rough,

You'll grin.

Sink to sleep at midnight, and although you're feeling tough,

Yet grin.

There's nothing gained by whining, and you're not that kind of stuff;
You're a fighter from away back, and you WON'T take a rebuff;
Your trouble is that you don't know when you have had enough --

Don't give in.

If Fate should down you, just get up and take another cuff;
You may bank on it that there is no philosophy like bluff,

And grin.

Thank you for the motivation which I just needed..

I'm a new driver just finished my 4 weeks OTR Training (student/trainer with Volvo automatic transmission) The company (and "I") felt confident enough to decide that i now can drive solo..

But then they told me that they have a no pet policy :-( another negative is that I am German Citizen legally in the US per E2 Visa which means I can only work on a 1099 as Independent Contractor.. so I couldn't get hired with the bigger companies since they need to hire as a company driver on a W2 which I am not allowed because it has social benefits (social security etcetera..)

Well I'm kinda stuck and since I was driving taxis and limos before I started CDL A i just got back to driving taxis :-(

If I could just find a smaller type of "owner operator" company I would be a perfect fit since I wanted to literally live in the truck, just work work work and save up some money to buy or lease my own truck within 2 years.

I looked everywhere, Craigslist and here as well, finding a job as a new driver is already hard enough, but if you also have a cat and can only work on a 1099 it seems almost impossible..

Thanks to the motivational post I will now even look harder and i appreciate anybody who eventually has a idea where else i could apply.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

Don't want to sound all negative or anything (or get off-topic) - but an E2 Visa doesn't allow you to work as an "employee" - or even a contractor.

It's supposed to be an "investor visa" - where you invest $$ in this country to start a business. And you are suppose to move here, start that business and be employed BY THAT BUSINESS.

E2 Visa Wiki

Not even sure how you got your CDL and a job with a company in the first place. An E2 is not an authorization to work.

Again - not to be negative or anything. I have no real suggestions to offer, as it doesn't appear you are here on the right visa to begin with. I'd be careful though, as you are violating the terms of an E2 visa.

Best of luck to you either way.

Rick

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered
Forgive them anyway

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish,ulterior motives
Be kind anyway

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies
Succeed anyway

If you are honest and frank people may cheat you
Be honest and Frank anyway

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight
Build anyway

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous
Be happy anyway

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow
Do good anyway

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough
Give the world the best you've got anyway

You see, in the in the final analysis, it is between you and God
It was never between you and them anyway
