Pffff.......I wish! I've been in the hospital exactly one time since my birth and that was for a tetanus shot when my own cat bit me. I haven't had a prescription medication that I can recall since I had an ear infection as a kid. And yet I pay $353/month for healthcare. Or to be more precise, I pay $353/month for everyone else's healthcare apparently cuz I've never used it.
So to those of you who actually use your health insurance - you're welcome.
I would say thank you but unfortunately......I have not had a chance to use your "help". Actually I am very happy that I do not need a doc.....but I do need coverage or Uncle Sammy will "penalize" me
.but I do need coverage or Uncle Sammy will "penalize" me
Yeah, that goes for all of us. For me it's been nothing but $353/month right down the sewer. Of course if I were to desperately need it I would be singing a different tune, as is the case for all insurance.
Heck, for anyone who has caused a car accident and used their insurance to pay it off in the past 20 years, you're welcome again! Once, when I was 17 I bumped into a car in a snowstorm and my insurance company paid like $350 in "damages", which there actually weren't any. But that's the grand total of auto insurance I've ever had to use in my life. The rest all went in someone else's pockets.
That's how it goes I guess!
WhIle you are researching make sure that the plan you choose qualifies under The ACA rules. My friend and her husband had insurance in 2014 and 2015. The IRS just sent them a bill/tax/penalty of 3k for each of those years. So, they paid for the insurance they could afford, then were sent a 6k bill because the policy did not meet the standard.
They were just starting to build a savings, so they are a little distraught.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I recommend going to your states exchange to buy health insurance. I always got a great deal on Kentucky's open market (kynect.gov) and so did my grown daughter and her husband because his insurance at work was too pricey.
I realize some states' open exchange may not work as well as ours or your state might have opted to use the federal government's website. All plans on the exchanges are required to meet the minimum coverage needed. Also, as a 1099 employee, you may be actually able to get a waiver, if the cost of insurance is prohibitively expensive due to preexisting medical conditions that you've been "rated" (charged higher premiums for) for. I hope this helps.
The ACA was sorely needed and as someone who worked in healthcare for 20 years and also obtained a life and health brokers license before embarking on this adventure we call trucking, I saw constantly the havoc uninsured or underinsured persons placed on our healthcare system. Like Brett said, you don't think you need it til that one major health event.
Consider this... I had a plan who dropped the premium for me if I eliminated the pregnancy and drug addiction treatment clauses. I'm never having kids at 42.. nope.. and don't smoke drink or do any kind of drugs..taking these two off for me dropped the bill by $200 per month. So ask if there are portions you can omit.
