Are you able to manually change the routing so if my company wants me to take a different road then what the gps is giving me I could easily switch it on the screen? I know the Garmin allows it. I'm trying decide which to buy and that will be deciding factor as other than that they seem to be the same. Thanks

The quick answer is yes. I was just reading up on it yesterday. Go to the online users manual. I love my 730. Learning all of the many features a little at a time. I never used a GPS in my life until I learned the Qualcomm. Swift Qualcomm is better at getting me to the truck entrances. Im working on learning how to change the RM routing to match the QC.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

There are a couple ways around to change it.

1. You can use detour feature. Click on step-by-step driving instructions and click on road you don't want to take, highlight and press "Detour" and it will re-route you. This may not get you on the route you want though.

2. You can use the multi-stop trip to setup your route, basically have to input in each new route point

both the ones above are through your GPS, last suggestion below is using online planning tool. or

3. Use the TripMaker® online planning tool to plan a trip with multiple via points and download those to the TND™ as a multi-stop trip. (Note: TripMaker® does not provide truck-specific routing. Your device will calculate a route, based on the vehicle and route settings, at the start of the multi-stop trip.) Access TripMaker® on the Rand McNally Dock™ or go to: randmcnally.com/tripmaker

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
