Evening ya'll, I was just talking with a driver in my neighborhood about my plan to get my CDL and hit the road. Here is the question! I caught a felony charge 35 yrs ago and since 1985 have only got 1 speeding ticket. Nothing more. Squeaky clean ncic and dmv. Should that cause me any trouble? My neighbor says prob. not but to ask ya'll for some advice. Thanks, Mark F.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Doubt it. As long as the ticket was more than. 3 yrs ago. Felonies are taken on individually.. they dont want dangerous people. .. but come on 35 yrs? Just admit it when asked cause they will find it

Caught or convicted?

Depending on the nature of the charge - you may or may not be able to get a HM endorsement or TWIC (though charges over 7 years old, can usually get a waiver).

You should be good to go on a 35 yo charge, and only 1 moving violation in all those years.

Rick

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Ditto to the above responses. Companies typically have a requirement as to how old they want the felony to be. However, considering it was 35 years ago, I don't see that being an issue, depending on the felony. Only thing you can do is apply and find see what is said. Worst that can happen is they say no!

Morning, That's what I thought. Long story short, my ex-father in law was a BSO deputy (Broward Sherriff Officer) in Ft. laud. and he was the arresting officer as well. He set me up and I had to plea out cause I was broke and stupid. Anyway, He was a dirty cop and didn't like me to much and told me He would make sure I got out of his daughters life. And He did. Boy does that bring back some nasty feelings. The poor ******* died a painful death ( cancer ) and I was at the funeral for my daughters support. The ex wife and I have always been friends however. Back in 81 things were different than they are now. That was a long time ago!!!! Since then, like I said clean as a window pane. Just going to move forward and see what happens.

Have a great day and be safe. Mark

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
