It depends on what state you live in. I remember from my brief time at Prime Inc people mentioning that in Georgia (that's where you live correct?) you have to. Even if you don't need it for the permit, you will need it before you start driving so it doesn't hurt to get it.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Yes, ok wasn't quite sure, rules change so much.
Yes, you need to have a DOT physical to obtain your permit. Some training companies offer it (prime was 32.50, or something like that) my state tests (Ga) ranged in price from $60-$150. Also, check wit your state to see about registering your DOT medical card and how mu h time you have to do that. In some states, if you dont do it in time, they can cancel your cdl alrtogether.

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

What do you mean by registering your DOT medical card? If you got the DOT physical and you got a green medical card, is there something more that needs to be done?

I'm in Indiana, I took all my tests for my permit and endorsements but then was told I had to get my physical done before I could get the actual permit. So I just ran down to a local Ambucare (was going there anyway for another issue) and had one done. Went back to BMV , they faxed it to the state office, and I received my permit.
On a side note I did not receive a medical card, does this come later?
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

You were supposed to get the medical card (or did get it) when you took the physical. That's what they had to fax to the BMV. If you didn't get your physical card and it was a regular DOT physical then call the Ambucare and request a copy. I imagine the paperwork they sent you home with was the long form of the card. You should have gotten a small card to put in your wallet.

Thanks Brett, what they gave me must have been the long form. It was like 4 pages lol.
I have to go for a follow up on the other issues so I will ask about the card.
Thanks again, This has been one of the most helpful websites I have ever used.
