What a day. Made my first drop just fine, had an hour to go 6 miles, so I stopped at the petro to use the restroom, and pick up a quick snack.

Drove over to my next stop and they had the road closed that led to where I needed to be. Called the shipper , they said to go down to the next exit then double back on the access road. So I did. Got off on the exit, crossed over the bridge, and I'm looking across the field to see if I can see a road that leads to where I'm going. I make a left turn to get on the access road...only its not the access road, it's the entrance back to the freeway, the access road is about another 150 yards down. So now I'm headed back south in i25, to get back to the first exit I got off on, so I could turn around and come right back. Problem is, there's an accident up ahead so now I'm moving slowly. I call my dm and let him know what is going on.

I finally show up to my consignee , about 20 minutes late embarrassed.gif

So much for trying to stay at 100%. Late delivery my first week......

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Sambo, what is considered a late appointment? We have 30-minutes after ETA before it affects our on-time performance.

I think here at knight, if it's past the appt time, it's considered late. However, I did click my dm when I knew I would be late, granted, that was when I made the mistake and got back on the freeway, and was only about 15 minutes before the appt time.

I'm hoping that the fact that I did call them, and that the road was closed will keep this from being a ding on my record

This will.make you feel better....

In NJ we don't have access roads, service roads, frontage roads etc.

My first solo run I had to take one to a blue beacon. It was pretty dark out. I then turned left to get back to the flying j to fuel then hit the road. In front of me came 2 lanes of traffic!!! I went the wrong way on a one way street without knowing it. Then turned into a drive to avoid getting hit...it then took me 30 min to slink around the tight car parking lot.

Your first week... they are glad u didn't hit or kill anyone. A slight lateness is not a huge thing lol. Ull get better

Thanks, I know it's probably not going to be an issue, but, I just wanted to keep that service record spotless, I guess I'll just keep pushing forward.

On a good note, I did get an atta boy from my dm for the load I just ran. Had to haul a load of produce from salinas, ca to Denver, but due to some altitude issues, I had to drive through barstow, then to abq, then 25 up to Denver. Something like 1650 miles, and my first stop was at 6am. Left ca on the 15th and had to make the 01 by 6 am on the 18th. Got it done and dm was happy.

Altitude issues?

Stevens won't allow drivers with less than one year driving experience to drive I-70 west of Denver, but I've been told it was due to the roads.

If I=70 is disallowed to you, then your route would normally, probably, have been I-15 to Salt Lake then I-80 to Cheyenne, then I-25 to Denver, but I-15 was closed for part of the last week due to that nasty fire.

What's altitude have to do with rookies? Never heard that before

Nah, it was because of the product, I guess bags can burst at high altitude.

Ah, yes, that could make sense. My bottled water supply (I keep 2-4 gallons of potable water in the truck at all times) makes lots of popping noises as the air in the 1 gallon jugs expands and contracts while I cross mountains. The first time it happened I stopped my truck and tried to figure out what the heck just made that noise!
