Started driving dump trucks growing up on our dairy farm at about 12. Got my class A CDL at 56.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Operating While Intoxicated
I got my CDL at 40. But, I have been driving larger vehicles since I joined the military. Also worked at a mining company in 2001 when I had a break in service. At the mining company I drove 50 ton Haul Trucks (life size Tonka Truck, lol)
Needless to say an 18 wheeler is not the longest, widest, tallest, or most heavy piece of equipment I have drove.

Started driving at 64, 12 years later still going.
Class A at 53 and still kicking it. Very soon will be 59 years young

I was 22 when I went to work for a house mover in Fairfax, OK. That was 1976. I didn't need a CDL , heck, I'm not even sure the CDL license law existed back then. But I drove his Mack's and Internationals pulling I-beams and trailers to and from job sites. The only training I got was "Don't speed, this is the ignition key".
