The first thing I would do is hire an accountant. Buy some land in the woods, build a log cabin, and purchase a restored 50s pick-up truck, probably an International.
In all honesty I'd probably continue to drive,...maybe not full time, but until I stop enjoying it, God willing, I'll keep doing it.
1. 15% to a church
2. Dad has house paid off and plenty of money in the bank.
3. College
4. Invest
5. Down the line, design and build a golf course and hire a couple of people to help me run it.
6. Trip to Monaco every year to watch f1 races.
I have a lot of ideas about what I'd do, but they must be all bad ideas, since God hasn't given me that kind of money. That's why I don't play the lottery.
The first thing you're doing is paying federal tax on it - 39.6%. Oh, and Oregon taxes lotteries as income, too - 8%. So what are you doing with $1,572,000? The man and his wife look young enough to have taken the annuity, I wonder why they didn't.

Actually - it was 9.4 Mil - so I guess, 3 mil after taxes.
I'd buy a 48' Prevost Bus/RV, bank the rest. Just tool around the country.
3.4 million isn't really a lot (aside from being 3.3 million more than I have).
I keep hitting $4 wins on the Powerball. Don't know why I bother.

They opted for the lump sum instead of the annuity. The annuity amount is what's quoted in the headline - $9.4 million - the lump sum is much smaller - $3 million. After tax would be a tad more that than 1/2 of the quoted lump sum amount in their hands. They may only have 33% withheld up front, but they are on the hook for the top tax rates, federal and state, on April 15, 2017. Still, it's probably more than he will make as take home pay during the rest of his working life, so there's that.
Quit driving. I already have the country homestead, I just need to pay it off. I'd have my wife drive me to town once a month for a haircut and maybe a restaurant meal.
Invest some of it.
I would build a church. And a home.
I would home school my kids.
I would research things.
When I go grocery shopping i would pick a person to pay for their groceries.
I would help people secretly without them knowing. Maybe I'd pay off my neighbors house without him knowing... Maybe I'd leave some cash or products on a needy doorstep.
I'd take my wife to a castle in Europe maybe Austria and renew our vows...

I would donate a good bit to charity, invest at least a million, pay off all my debts, pay off anything my parents owe, take some time off to travel internationally and then keep working to stay busy.
