I own a house, and have no relatives near me, so I go back monthly for 4-5 days.
Sometimes I wish I didn't have the house, so I could stay out a few months at a time. After six months, I've never woken up once when I didn't want to drive. I normally get back in the truck a day earlier than planned.
A friend of mine said farewell to our hometown last week. He said he's not ever "going home" again because his truck is now his home. I believe this truly marks the beginning of his happiness and I hope you are able to do with your house what has to be done. If I had no family. I'd be on the road for life. But I have a family so I run local. When my kids are grown maybe me n my wife will go OTR.
I wake up at about 230-300 leave and get home between 1700-1900. I see my kids kids my wife go to sleep and do it again.
What I miss most. 1. OTR I can pull over if I feel like it and take a nap. I don't have to be there in a half hour. I miss the open road and being able to choose my drive time. A. Now I have 3-6 loads a day. B. most of my driving is between 2nd-6th gears in traffic and in the city. C. Never get to choose when to drive.
2. I can just wake up and drive. I didn't have to pack a lunch and Get Ready everyday. I enjoyed that. Just pull over. A. 3-4 hours of my day now consists of getting ready and commuting. What I don't miss at all. Not seeing my kids and wife. Smaller checks after taking home time. Getting paid by the mile. Sleeping in the truck fighting weather...
I would stay out 4 weeks at a time. The only reason I came home was for the family.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Longest I stayed out was 60 days. I found though that I run for about 4 weeks then go home. I found staying out for 60 days was a bit much, but I found out to that it takes me a bit longer to burnout so I just take hometime before it do. I don't have wife or kids, but I like to visit my parents regularly.
Hey Gladhand! Another Swift Driver that likes a clean Truck! Mine is filthy right now. HT scheduled for 09/15. Time to get out the old bucket n' brush myself.

That's what I did. My dad is no longer in business but we still have a shop, so if I end up going home bobtail , which I usually will, I park it there and wash it.
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
Any time I am at a Terminal , I always run through the wash bay. Still like to give it a good scrubbing when I am home though. This time I need to clean a lot of tar splatter. Damn road construction!
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

That's the worst, my ferrings have stains where they hit. Is 80 through Wyoming almost done? Haven't been there since July I think.
