Five months behind the wheel and you're already becoming a philosopher!
Keep it coming, Glads!
And for others who realize it's not the destination that really matters but the journey. Trucking can also be a great job for someone who has finally figured out what they want and love to do.
It's all in how you look at it and where you are coming from.

Definitely Errol, sitting in this seat has really made me notice things that I never noticed before. Even my home looks completely new to me. So many intricacies that I never paid attention to.

Agreed. I am different from a lot of people on here being that this is my first true career choice and it has opened so many doors for me. I never realized all the opportunity that there was to be had after being indoctrinated by the school counselor. I thought college was my only way to a better life, man was I wrong.
You know, the noticeable intrincities and new perspectives I believe come from a heightened sense of awareness.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I guess being in the moment instead of living vicariously through famous people, I have come to appreciate even the small things.
You have learned young Grasshopper! Being satisfied with your life and/or career is the one thing that many fail to achieve. You are at that point in your life while still having much growing to do within this career of your choice. Your attitude is going to take you a long way in this industry.

It's post like these that make me love this forum and the people in it! Helps me to consider trucking from all sides before coming out on the road soon and it helps me to examine my heart as well! Thanks Glads! Enjoying what you do definitely makes a difference in what you do!

I believe in education. However the lessons you learn and the experiences you gain while performing this job are valuable no matter what you decide to do with your future and cannot be taught in any classroom.

After being a truck driver for the last 5 months, I can't believe I used to think a 40 hour work week meant I had no life haha, just after spending multiple 14 hour days and 70 hour work weeks throughout my time out here I realize how easy it was, but the difference is I actually want to work now. It's quite the feeling to actually want to wake up to get going. What a job, where we do whatever we can to not have a day off when we are on the road. Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them the hours we have to put in, but I find it to be worth it.
I am also finding that I actually miss my little town, it went from a bad place to be to a nice place for down time. It's amazing that when we change our perspectives we realize how good we have it and enjoy things more. I am like Brett, I love being alone and this alone time is great at helping me figure out things.
Some will disagree with me but I feel like trucking is a good job for someone to figure out what they want to do, it may end up being that they will drive as a career or find out where there true passion lies. It's definitely cheaper than wasting money in college to figure out what you want to do with life.
