It's typically going to do that, because of the voltage drop to the inverter, that occurs when starting.
There's a reason why trucks have multiple batteries - takes a LOT OF CURRENT to turn over a 13 liter diesel motor.
No real way to prevent it. Maybe a capacitor on the input of the inverter, but I don't think companies are going to allow you to wire "extra stuff" on your truck.
Mis-wired accessories are the NUMBER ONE CAUSE of tractor fires.

You can get an Uninterruptible Power Supply. Basically a battery between the 117v line and your appliance.
This is a computer item, actually.
I'd love to see a statistic on mis wired accessories being the number one cause of truck fires. I've been curious as to what those stats are for a while and the only list I've found doesn't list it as the number one cause.

But the reason WHY companies do not allow drivers to install inverters or accessories (that don't plug into a lighter socket) themselves.
The other thing (about using a battery backup UPS connected to an inverter):
1 - Most inverters put out SQUARE WAVE OUTPUT. Battery backups (for the most part) aren't really fond of them.
2 - Don't buy a UPS Backup whose INPUT is HIGHER THAN the output of the inverter.

I have a truck that idles then will shut off and a short time later start back up. When it starts back up it kicks my inverter off turning my tv and DVD player off. Has anyone else had this issue. Can anyone tell me why it does this and how to prevent it from happening. Thanks for any responses.
