Sue, three times in my life I've witnessed a tire blow out with a loud bang, like an explosion, on a stationary vehicle. All three times this happened on big trucks. Tires can do some really strange things.

It's not that strange. A parked truck has a 53-foot-long, 10-foot-high sail on it. When the wind blows, the truck moves. How many times have you been woken up by what you thought was someone bumping your truck, only to look outside and see that nobody hit you, it's just windy?
