I stopped reading this hot mess when I got to Old School's comment on Mark Twain., O.S., you don't need to stand up on Mr. Twain's behalf. Although it sounds like Twain may have written this, according to Snopes.com,
(There is no) documentation about where and when Twain either uttered or wrote these words, and the quote is nowhere to be found among his literary writings, letters, or recorded speeches.
Mr. Twain is smarter than this.
I actually enjoy reading philosophy for pure academic reasons and mind thought, its just that academic mind thought. They rarely have any bearing in the real world except for maybe a frame of mind. The real problem is that they build theories like a house of cards. Every step is based on the assumption that everything else is true. And then they tend to fall apart in the light of the real world.

Errol, my original thought was to question whether Twain actually said that or not. I've read a lot of Twain, and I don't recall it. He had a quality for coming up with such quips, but I'm still not sure if that came from him. I was more concerned with the subject at hand.
Old school, it was the electoral college not the voters. And there are people like the Koch brothers who punch the buttons behind the scenes. I will defer to you on all issues of trucking because I respect your experience and reasoning ability, but I'm as old as you and I do believe the system is designed to give us just enough to prevent a French type revolution.
Without the electoral vote, the five largest cities in the US would always control the election. A popular vote will not work.
Back to the topic, Kit, did you escape your padded cell again?
Old School: Yes, we will have to agree to disagree. Like you, I have friends who have different viewpoints and that is fine by me, we're still friends. But you still didn't answer my question, who won the popular vote? And what does that say about our so called "Democracy"? We live in a system more accurately labeled an "Oligarchy" and not to vote is a statement in itself about the fallacy of our so called Democracy. Anyway, I always look forward to your comments here and thanks for sharing all your experience.
Ahh I see the problem. We are not, was never, or was meant to be a pure democracy. We are a Republic Democracy. The foundling fathers went that way so as the whole country has a say and not just the largest cities.

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
Keep drinking the Kool-Ade. Voting doesn't work, the electoral college doesn't work, Democracy doesn't work as this country is not one. But Oligarchy seems to be keeping the trucks running. Remember the Bush/Gore fiasco?

Why don't you give us an example of a Nation more successful then the United States? Why do millions of people want to come here if it's in such disarray as you say? A few years back things were sliding down hill fast... Thank God for the Electoral College do you think our economy would be this successful under shillary?

I heard it a different way: If you wrestle with a pig you'll both get muddy and only the pig will be happy.
