There's no way for us to know what your prospective employers will ask your former employers. Someone a few days ago said they applied for a job but they were turned down because the previous employer reported things that they hadn't listed on his DAC. So yes, it's entirely possible they will dig back through and try to find out more about your previous experience, including things that are not on your DAC.
A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).
It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.
Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
As Brett mentioned - since they were listed on your DAC , it is likely that CRE will be checked as a previous employer.
Way back then - they (and others) were kind of famous for pulling the kind of stuff mentioned in the original post. From what I hear, they've cleaned up their act (somewhat). But since you WERE A CDL DRIVER within the 10 year window - you are required to list them, and prospective employers are required to contact them.
But they still might report the abandonment, if called for a reference.
I am also not sure - if the DAC pulled by the EMPLOYER - shows more info than a "consumer requested one". I know HireRight no longer includes CRIMINAL HISTORY in the "consumer requested" report - though they did a few years ago when I pulled my first one.
Hindsight being 20/20 (and a word to the wise, should one of our members be faced with a similar scenario) - you should have brought the truck to SLC and left it there. Again - shoulda/coulda is meaningless now.
You WILL (and SHOULD) have to go through training again, and really, you probably WANT TO. So try the "usual companies" - Prime, Swift, etc.
Best of luck - keep us posted on your progress...
Rick
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

So I pulled my DAC. It shows that I worked for England for six months, but nothing else. Got it from hirerite.com. it has a disclaimer that reads since it has been more than 7 years, by law it cannot disclose drug test results or accident information. I had no accidents nor did I fail any drug tests anyway. It says nothing about abandoned equipment. Only thing I wonder about is if a company will get more details, or if, because it's been more than 7 years that is no longer accessible information.
