So I'm going through some more threads and reading everyone's comments to each others. It seems most of the time, the posed questions and threads are created by new members/rookie drivers and yadda yadda, but I'm wondering -- of the members who are not new on this site nor new to trucking but obviously feel super comfortable with each other here in that jokes are made- some friendly jests, private and running jokes referenced....

How well do you guys actually know each other on here?

I can only speak for myself,...I have only met one TTer, "Harrisburg Steve". Some day I might meet Paul W due to him gravitating towards Walmart Dedicated. Although he is two time zones west of me, never know what can happen in this business.

I keep in touch through email with several members, the moderators and Brett, never met anyone though. Since Old School is frequently in Cresonna Pa I could see our paths crossing on Rt 61 or I81 at some point. Same for 6-String since he is a Pa runner.

Would be cool though to meet many of you...some day. Maybe.

I should add that I'm continuously impressed with how friendly everyone is to each other, and supportive without any nastiness and in an entirely casual and non-stuffy way. Like you guys are a group of friends IRL, too.. or have actually met each other on the roads, or something. It's impressive for new members like myself to observe.

G-Town, that's actually a good point... I think I did see it referenced somewhere that members used to be able to instant message (or message) each other through here? Wonder why that feature was taken away. You're one of those who seems to know the members here, also, haha, so I'm glad you responded!

I met at least one driver from here in person. I've talked to Guy and Old School over the phone in the past. I've corresponded via email with a few folks. Old School and I are trying to share a meal one of these days. I'd love to meet G'town as he seems like a kindred fellow.

I have met Errol. Was in Memphis during training. Would like to meet lots of these People. This is a friendly and helpful site. We're kinda like friends that have never met in person! LOL. If you want Meanness and Nastiness there are Forums for that too. I choose not to participate in that stuff. That is why I do not use Facebook, Twitter, etc. When there is anonymity involved, it tends to bring out the worst in people! Stick around here and you too will have "friends" you've never met!

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

And I think private messages should be brought back.

I've met Tractor Man, it was over at the infamous Jurupa Valley terminal. I was attending my first day of orientation and he was there to upgrade and pick up his truck. But apparently he doesn't remember meeting me. LOL!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Not only have I met fellow TTer's I've actually been their CDL instructor. It gives me great satisfaction to know I have helped people actually earn their CDL. Giving them the tools they need to be successful In their new career and to it safely.

Outside of that unfortunately I haven't met anyone else. Of course occasionally I check the map to see if anyone's around my neck of the woods. So far without success.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
