Window Stuck Down

My driver's side window is stuck in the down position. I stopped a few hours early because of that (at a company yard where thay have maintenance people but not until morning), and that's probably going to affect the assignments i have for the rest of the week. I almost kept going, but it was drizzling and the possibility of driving through pouring rain with the window down seemed like a bad idea.

Did i do the right thing, or is that too minor of a problem to have them reassign loads over? I'm worried that my manager will think i should just have kept going.

It's a safety and security issue. When you leave the truck others will have access to it. Needs repairs

Thanks, yeah, didn't think of the security issue. I just really hate to tell them i'm not going to be able to make my appointments when i have a nice week set up. Probably what i should have done is called maintenance as soon as i noticed it, and maybe they could have sent me somewhere to get it fixed this evening.

Shocked they didn't set up an appt with safelite auto glass. They come right out to the truck stops. Put my windshield in in like 15 minutes. But maybe they were afraid it wanst glass but mechanical.

Don't feel bad nothing you cant do it, if they are that concerned they can give you a loaner but it doesn't take long ... Unless the motor died. Then it is just replacing the motor. One of my car windows did that and it just came off track. Took no time at all.

Well, i haven't called anyone yet, because i'm already at a company maintenance location, but they only work 7-5. And yeah, i'm pretty sure it's an electrical problem. The curb side window stopped working a couple weeks ago but it's stuck closed so i've been living with it until my next maintenance appt. Don't know if it's related or a coincidence. Anyway, not much to be done now since i'm almost out of hours, i'll just have to wait till morning.

If you really don't want to screw your week up, could just leave in the morning as usual and make sure you shut down at night somewhere like a TA that has a shop. Then call your company and tell them what's going on with your window. They'll probably just set you up for service at the TA, or if you shut down somewhere else they'll send someone out to you during your 10. Saves you time but costs your company more money for repairs.

Yeah, that's a good idea, but unfortunately i just checked the forecast and it's supposed to rain today where i have to go. But it's just barely possible that if the guys here can fix it quickly in the morning, or at least just get it rolled up, i can still make everything.

I have until midnight to deliver my current load that's about 5 hours away so that shouldn't be a problem. But the next one was getting me back and i likely won't make that, so i don't know if they'll find me something else or take this current one off me and keep me in the area until my home time (i'm home every week). If that happens I'm losing like 1/3 of my miles for the week. Oh well, stuff happens.

Kurt; what happened? Did you get it fixed? Did you make it to your appointment? TTers want to know.

It's a bit late for this advice, but have you checked the fuses?

Especially if you hit the button and there is no motor noise at all.

Well, i did check the fuses, and i even pried off the panel with the buttons and tried to send 12v to the motor directly, but nothing happened. I did confirm that if you short the wrong things together you will in fact blow a fuse.

But this morning the mechanic fixed it in about an hour (it was a bad motor) and i was on the road by 9am. They did take away my pre-assignment that i was going to be late on, but they gave me a different load in place of it, so it all turned out ok. The mechanic said that it was a DOT item that the driver's side window has to work, so i think i did the right thing after all.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
