The route finder in Trucker Path is only good to find a route, then check out the truck stop's on the route. I wouldn't use the "GPS" for anything else.

I do keep the TP map open, though. When it's set to stay on your location, you GET a "big picture" of the area your driving through, and your real GPS shows to the road & turns.

I use Trucker Path to watch for low bridges when I take detours suggested by Google. I only take Google suggestions outside big cities - the Navigo map Stevens uses is horribly out of date. For example, it does not have the full length of I-22, missing several miles of it North of Birmingham, nor does it recognize the Provo route between I-15 and I80, which saves a lot of miles, though it was terribly congested the last time I went through there due to Labor Day weekend, AND construction (they are widening the roads - trucks can go through now.)

I do plan on eventually getting a Rand McNally GPS, but need to get winter clothing, bedding, and boots first.

You know - I've logged 1,000's of miles in the 70's & 80's - following the Grateful Dead all over the country. Before smart phones (cell phones), GPS's, etc.

I had a ROAD ATLAS back then (granted, we're talking a car, not a truck), and always managed to get where I was going.

Have a friend that trains for a company (not one of the popular ones here) that doesn't allow his trainee's to use a GPS or even a QC for their routing when they're training. Makes em use the Road Atlas - so that in the event that EVERYTHING FAILS, they'll still be able to get from point a to b.

I had 2 GPS's on my Tour Bus (2008) - I used to let em fight it out. One was a Truck/RV GPS, one was Ipad based. They still got me jammed up. Imagine backing a bus and 10' trailer up a 100 yard residential street at 3AM after a gig, because the street ended in a "T" and there wasn't enough room with all the parked cars to get the bus/trailer around the corner.

Always follow your instincts - never get TOO DEPENDENT on technology.

I use google maps along with the garmin dezl. When one fails me the other corrects me. My buddy had a R.M. and that was a peice of crap. The speaker also blew out on it

I have the "large print" deluxe edition cause to me you just see a little more detail or maybe I'm just old.

I've always used maps and when I ordered my new Mustang I told them to remove the GPS. The guy couldn't figure out why, I responded "I can read a map and I don't need to pay $45,000 for a car to call me stupid and tell me I don't know where I'm going" lol

Hey Rick Thanks for advice. I had to order from Amazon cause I leave Monday and the rand store only had ground shipping. Which didn't help me ? But thanks for all ur advice.

Well, Sam, as for yer paper book type road Atlas, it really does come down to a choice between the Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas paper edition or the Rand McNally Deluxe Motor Carriers' Road Atlas that's spiral bound and has laminated pages (so you can write on 'em).

The laminated one is better, but pricier. Check at truck stops or on line for cheaper-than-list-price.

^^^^ DELUXE ONE - worth every penny.

Way more durable - plus you can write on the laminated pages with grease pencil and wipe them off.

Rand McNally themselves have the 2017 deluxe for $39.99 - amazon has them for $49.

Rand charges $7.95 to ship USP ground. Amazon Prime (which I pay for to get free 2nd day, and Prime Video Streaming) is free shipping. I'll probably order mine from Amazon - as the $2.00 isn't gonna kill me either way.

Since I have to order a pair of boots from Amazon anyways...
