Usually just innocent, they don't get a receipt or anything with your information on it. If it's P/FJ with a key number on a ticket just tear off the number only for them or write it down on a blank paper. I've bought showers before and also been in the other situation and luckily someone covered my shower.
I'd rather give them shower credits than money. I get woken all the time cause they think since Im a woman I'll be nicer hahhahah don't know me
When I have "shower power" ill give out some showers.
I don't know about the showers, sounds legit. But I have been scammed before with people asking for money. I'm that dumb nice guy who usually gives people money.
Well, every time I've been to the Love's in Ft. Worth (and I've been several times) I've been asked for money. Last time I was there I was taking a 34 so I was there two afternoons in a row. First afternoon, this guy comes up with some jewelry (which he claimed was 14k gold--I didn't believe him) and wants to sell me some for a "really discounted price." Says he needs the money to fix the transmission on his car but he doesn't want free money so he's willing to sell me the jewelry. No, I don't want his jewelry so I give him a few bucks and he leaves. Next day, a different guy comes up with the same jewelry and a different story! This second guy actually climbs up on my door to talk to me, and I'm sitting there holding my utility knife under the window out of his view hoping he doesn't attack me or something. He's begging for gas money and won't go away.. He didn't get anything.
But yeah, I've never been asked for a shower. I have asked others for showers though.
I was just backing into a spot at the Sadler Truck Plaza in Dunn NC...no sooner hit my air brakes and this guy comes to my window. He says his car ran out of gas 1/2 mile down 95 and wanted t know if I could help him out. I rarely carry cash, so I told him I didn't have any cash. He huffed and puffed away. I watched him as he walked across the parking lot, got into a minivan and drove away! Funny.
I had another guy ask me for gas money. He and his wife were just trying to get another 150 miles south. I asked where she was...he said waiting in the car. So I walked up to the gas pump, she pulled the car up, I activated the pump and put gas in the car. Maybe he was trying to scam people, or maybe he was truly just trying to get to a destination...it was around Thanksgiving if I remember correctly. Either way, the 35 buck I spent on gas meant more to him than it did to me.
There isn't any way to get money or anything off a shower slip. The only way they have any card info is if you get a receipt from the register and most places have kiosks you can use. I always assume it's innocent if they are asking for a shower because in my mind if they're asking for a shower they just want a shower. If they want money they will beg or try to sell you something for it.
I've only been asked once but I will never have a problem giving someone a shower. Get it from the kiosk and there is no information on there.
I always have a minimum of four showers on my card and I get Shower Power within a week or so. So it doesn't hurt me and gives someone a chance to clean up.
We all know how much a shower can make a difference in a day. Whether it's a student, driver with no credits or a homeless person, I will always give someone a shower if they ask.
I've bought showers before and also been in the other situation and luckily someone covered my shower.
I've been in both situations before also! Pay it forward.
I always have a minimum of four showers on my card .....
Wow. I'm jealous. I've rarely had more than a couple showers on any card. I manage my shower credits and rewards points as closely as I manage my HOS.

I've had this happen to me twice where people will linger around the truck stop and then stop me and ask me if I have any shower points left.
Both of these incidents were at different truck stops, and I think in two different states.
I'm not sure if this is just a couple of people who are drivers and they don't have enough points on their card to get a shower, or if there is some sort of scam going on where if they get a shower receipt from you, they can get some kind of credit card info or something. Or possibly homeless people wanting to get cleaned up.
I'm all for helping people in need, but just wasn't sure if there was something up with this.
Don't know what to make of it. Is it innocent or is there something else going on?
TWIC:
Transportation Worker Identification Credential
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
