The rest of the regulars here try to pretend I'm not hilarious, but I know they regularly have to clean beverage spray off their computer screens..

I asked a driver next to me if he knew where I can park as a bobtail cuz I didn't want to take the full spot but he wasn't very helpful on the curtesy front. Just told me it's first come first serve which is not really the attitude I was looking for.

Now, I did actually park as if I had a trailer because of those times I see a spot and it turns out to be taken. However, the "makes it easier for people to park beside me statement" I find solid. Sure we are all suppose to be professionals and know how to back but I have to be reasonable given what I've experienced backing and watching others back.

There aren't that many people I see back smoothly and perfectly on the first try when it's a tight fit and/or dark. Either they make many corrections(the front wheels tell the story) backing the first time or they do pull ups. Being the added headache causing damage creates, I'd take only that reason for parking in the back as good enough for me.

Maybe it evens out, IDK? **** for giving the impression a spot is free, courteous for giving extra room to make backing easier?

Making it so two bobtails can park seems cool but cordinating that would kind of lower that reason down in my rookie view.

Parking in the car lot would seem doable I suppose but I didn't think that was a good idea so I just stayed there, took a shower, and then left.

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

An UNCOURTEOUS Truck Driver? I can't imagine! The world is full of so many D-Bags anymore, I usually just keep to myself. Just one of the benefits of being a self imposed loner.

Now that's FUNNY

G-Town, I know you are aware of the difficulties of communicating with text only - it's easy to be misunderstood. While I agree with your premise that those things would be unprofessional, and we certainly don't want to leave the impression to any new drivers here that might think we condone such antics, I thought it obvious that Phox was speaking in jest. I honestly don't think he would do any of those things.

He did give me a chucl5e though, because he provided me with a memory of my grandfather doing something very much out of character for himself. Once when I was a young lad he took me to a shopping mall and some "young whipper snapper" cut in front of him to grab a parking spot that he was clearly setting up to park in. As we walked into the shopping center my grandfather quietly walked over to the young man's car, pulled out a little tool from his pocket and quickly removed all four of his valve stems! It was scandalous! We both walked inside with big grins on our faces and never spoke a word to each other about what just took place.

Not trying to jump the topic but girl you got folks asking for some kind of update about yourself. Don't keep em waiting.

A lot of places you can fit bobtails in the car lot too. The ones that irritate me are the pickup trucks with little u-hauls. They can park anywhere they want but they take our spots...

I don't see what's uncourteous about that. He's right, parking is first come first serve. If there's somewhere I can park bobtail other than the full spots, I will. But I'm not going to risk getting towed just to be a nice guy.

I guess the best way I can frame it is someone coming up to the register and still not sure what to get with a line behind him. Mentality one would be thinking about the line and might say go ahead to the guy behind. Mentality two wouldn't even have it cross his mind and just stand there until he decides what to buy. I was hoping for mentality one but yes, technically, he is next?

I guess its not so much that he had to find a solution for me not to park there but the way in which he viewed and replied to the question. It also doesn't help his case that he told me he ran over a parked car with his trailer and just left... pieces everywhere he said...
