Well I put a kingpin lock on my trlr and the damn yard dog rammed into it. I did it so i wouldnt have to search for it after my truck gets fixed. Well it got fixed and i go to unlock it and the key wont turn.. Any advice? Don't want to torch it being that my trlr is loaded...

Not sure how to get it off. But the next time you use one, hang a "Flag" on it so maybe next time someone will see it. It's always something isn't it! BUMMER

Can you rotate it by hand? If not, do you have a hammer or crowbar or something? First thing I'd do is smack the kingpin a few times, then try to unlock it again. If the Yard dog hit it hard enough, it might be out of position and putting too much pressure on the lock for it to turn.

If that doesn't work, you might have to get it torched off.

However, if it's a company yard, and there are mechanics there, you might get one of them to come out and look at it. They might have tricks for dealing with kingpins.

Also, if it's a company yard, and they don't have a policy against kingpin locks, they might replace it for you?

Tried to get help and none of them would even come look. They just said they might have to torch it..

I don't know how those things work. We were forced to buy one and I never even took mine out of the box. But I'm with Farmer Bob, you might as well get a hammer and pound on it some.

After a lot of curse words, thrown hammers, and I am ashamed to say losing my cool on one of the yard guys I am hooked up to my trailer and ready to go. Went to security and he let me use his master key. So I say what the hell and what do you know, it worked.... man finally running good miles and I mess myself up with something else. The positive from all this is my air lines and electrical lines are fixed and no longer being held by some bale wire.

So there are mater keys for those things? Are you sure they didn't switch locks on you?

Not because mine was backed into and I broke the rules, not supposed to use kingpin lock at terminal. It's weird though because I had no problem locking it with my key. Either way I won't do it again. I'll just ask the shop where to drop my trlr so it won't be moved. Ended up wasting more time than saving any.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Sorry you lost your cool. I'm trying to picture you losing it but I'm just not getting a clear image lol. I've thrown my hammer a few times too.

I had no idea using the kingpin locks at terminals was against policy. I almost did it in SLC the other day with a Walmart trailer I didn't want moved. I guess it makes sense though.

Glad you're rolling again my friend.

Yeah I know now. Believe it or not I had a lot of anger issues when I was younger haha. The attitudes of the guys in the shop really put me off, but whatever I am good to go and late again... damn haha.
