WIOA grants

I recieved one for being a displaced worker. I was laid off and could not find comparable work.

Also talk to your local unemployment office. They will be able to help you or point you in the right direction.

An extended training program at a community college might also qualify for federal Pell grants.

WIOA:

WIOA - Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (aka WIA)

Formerly known as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), the WIOA was established in 1998 to prepare youth, adults and dislocated workers for entry and reentry into the workforce. WIOA training funds are designed to serve laid-off individuals, older youth and adults who are in need of training to enter or reenter the labor market. A lot of truck drivers get funding for their CDL training through WIOA.

The WIOA or WIAA grants are also generally availabke to those who are "underemployed". And yes ive heard if 300+ hour traing programs that do qualify for a pell grant.

I really wish you the best of luck in this. Soneone in here recently was posting about a 320 hour trainung program at a comnunity college.. Not sure where they were located. My community college program was only 160 hrs and doesnt qualify for pell but does get students with WIAA funding.

Also the school i attended only passed you and issued your training certificate until AFTER you obtained your CDL-A and would pretty much work with people until they passed. I think in some cases they might have charged a little extra for that but im not real sure.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
