I feel like I should have been started like 5 to ten years ago! But dealing with these idiots and dead end jobs kind of held me back a few years. I refuse to go through my whole life wondering what my life would have been only if I had starting driving a big rig.No more daydreaming here I go and I am going to give it my all.smile.gif

You go Butterflybaby.good-luck.gif Don't let anyone put a damper on something YOU want. I'm in the process of going to school myself & drove team with my ex over 18 yrs ago. It seems a different world out there & the trucking industry welcomes ladies more openly now. Just like a lot of people have said on here, give it a year & see where its brought you. It'll get in your blood girl, I'm tellin' ya ! Please keep in touch & let me know how PAM transport is working out. I'm looking at Werner myself.

I am trying to decide what school or company to go to and get my CDL. Just me and my little Shih-Tzu dog/hairy son that is 11. Anyone have any suggestions? New to all of this and have put it off long enough for fear of not passing tests (they make me nervous whether I can ace it or not) and just being a woman that has never been out on my own especially traveling. I can't wait to get out there and throw myself in with the Lions :) Shelly

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

You might need a "baby"sitter during training. I'm not sure about that one but you might want to look into that during school and in potential employers. Don't worry about acing tests either :D most people don't, there is a lot of information you need to learn in a fairly short amount of time. Of course shoot to ace but the main goal is passing. There are a lot of things you learn after you pass all of the testing (written exam and actual road test).

Good luck :D

Thank you Kemo, So its just like when I got my Cosmo License and Realtor License you learn more about what you will be doing after school than during. Hopefully I will be enrolled somewhere by next week.
