For a horror story, just do a 34 hr at the Loves on Trinity Ln in Nashville. You couldn't pay me to do my 30 min DOT break there. Trinity Ln is not somewhere you want to be in Nashville. Trinity Ln is known for its own CDL. Crime, Drugs, & Lovin' (the drug induced, diseased kind).
And during football season forget trying to stay at the TA in Nashville either. Since they are across the street from the stadium, they section out a huge section of the truck parking to be used for "event" parking. They will go so far as to wake you up and tell you to move or get towed. Btw, the Titans have a home game tonight.
Drive Safe Y'all and God Speed
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Not really a horror story, just advice. As has been already said, keep your head on a swivel. You might be tired, but so is everyone else. This is when mistakes happen. Go slow, turn off the stereo. No matter the weather, I roll down the windows on both sides a few inches. Somebody yells "hey", "watch out" or "stop", I wanna hear it. You wanna hear engine sounds, tires, brakes, etc.
Carry a little flashlight. If its particularly dark, put on your safety vest to walk to the bathroom, or walking your dog. There have been fatalities of truckers walking their dogs and getting hit by a trucker that thinks splitting into high range in a truck stop is a good thing. Don't walk between the row of trailers parked back to back. Just your luck that's when someone decides to leave and accidentally uses reverse.
As long as I'm on a roll here, I might walk around the truck before getting back in if it's a sketchy parking lot. I'll try the door handle before unlocking it so I'm sure I didn't forget to lock the doors. If the door wasnt locked, you can bet my antenna would be up getting into the cab. Lock doors immediately when getting in. My old trainer told a story of being followed and as soon as he closed the door and released his grip the door opened and a very unpleasant encounter ensued.
