6 Weeks Of Training On The Road... UHHG!

I'm in my 6th week with a company trainer (3.5 weeks with drill instructor Johnson and my 2nd with a much better fit). Have driven every state west of the Mississippi and another 8 east of it. Driven Donner's Pass and Snoqualmie. Today I made more major mistakes in the first 4 hours than in all the previous weeks put together. Trying to make numerous deliveries where the only option is to block a busy two lane road while backing in. If it weren't for the quick directions/shouts from my trainer I would have hit a car, a couple of signs, a telephone pole, and driven head on into a curb and off the road at 40mph. I'm surprised my trainer has allowed me to keep driving. I'd rather go through Marine Corps boot camp again than do the last 5.5 weeks of training. At 55 years of age, this is the hardest thing I've ever done! As frustrating as 4 years of college all in less than 6 weeks. Please tell me it will get easier!

It WILL get easier/less stressful and thank God for professionals who are willing to train, right? I'm very glad everyone came away unscathed and no damage. I'd guess most of us have had days like that. Just take a deep breath and remember that experience because the memory will serve you well in the future and make you a better driver.

Best Wishes!

Gawd, I hope so lol. Mine seems more concerned with fuel economy, but may be he just has to pick somethink until a pull a bone head move. 😀 Now if i can just get him to answer a question other than to ask me a question back, and stop acting like i have traveled these routes before.....

Lol, I feel ya on the questions back. Your trainer is probably just trying to get you to think and work out whatever the scenario is. My trainer (who is my codriver these days) and I became close friends, despite the fact that he was and still remains an unrelenting perfectionist. Even though I'm wrapping up my rookie year soon, I wouldn't have had it be any other way.

Well i'll tell ya I aint taking any long hot showers with him, thats fer sure 😨

But seriously, at night, on unfamiliar road, jeez, i just asked left or right, dont need 20 questions back ! ! !

Sure i get that i will need to remember how i got in somewhere, but then i would at least have directions in.

I didn't either when in training lol, but we did become friends and kept in touch after I went solo. Later on we decided to team after he made the decision to stop training, and no, we still don't share showers.

Just pointing out that even though we got along well.. trai

Training was still rough because he is a hard @$$ ed perfectionist lol. I understand the frustration of a trainer who expects you to know more than you do... anywho..
