I have seen drivers sit on everything ftom regular bed pillows to special seat cushions. And ive seen many drivers not use anything extra. There are also some pretty fancy truck seats available out there... Bose Ride comes to mind. Last time we stopped at the Iowa 80, we tried out some of the custon seats and loose cushions.. I honestly thought the loose cushions were awful but Im sure some love them.
The seats in our truck are pretty nicr actually and have so many adjustments..my only problem is our truck is a tall guys truck (codriver is 6'4") and the lumbar support comes in way too high for me so sometimes i use a small lumbar support pillow if the roads are really bad.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Jeff, I don't "add" anything to the truck's own seat, myself. Remember, truck designers know the driver and passenger are going to spend a large part of their lives sitting there. Truck seats are not anything like automobile seats.
Sue mentioned trying out different seats at a truck stop display. Stock replacement seats start at around $600. They're not just a bench to put your butt on.
Yeah I sat in one that was over $1500 lol. We were just killing some time walking around looking at all the accessories they stock. Our seats we have are pretty comfy and I could fix the lumbar thing thru one of the many available adjustments but its just easier for me to leave the base seat lowered down where he needs it and use my little lumbar pillow.. Sooo many adjustments available.. Ah the challenges of teaming with someone who is 8" taller than you are lol. When I was solo, I had my seat adjusted just for me and didnt use anything extra either.
HaHa!
I doubt our new guest here is going to invest in a Bose truck seat to put behind his desk at the Library!
Thanks for the replies. They make a lot of sense. You gotta keep the truckers happy, especially in the seat.

For office type work or anything requiring a lot of sitting, I've been hearing about the X chair on the radio. Supposed to pretty good, according to the ads. They are very expensive though.
I have moderate back problems, enough to require monthly visits to the chiropractor, and I have no trouble staying comfortable in the seat without any extras. There are so many adjustments you can make. Up, down, forward, back, upright, leaned back, lumbar support. As far as the butt, I find that just shifting my sitting position slightly this way or that relieves any discomfort, and stopping to stretch, use the restroom, and walk around a bit every once in awhile is always a good idea.
Never keep your wallet in your back pocket while sitting, your back will go over time and that really sucks.

Hi dedicated truckers,
It may seem strange that a Librarian would be asking this of truckers, but I know that long-term sitting has a negative affect on your posterior, and can create medical problems in your nether parts. What do you use to use to prevent or alleviate that? Do you use specialized pillows or cushions? As a recent hemorrhoid sufferer, I find it uncomfortable sitting in chairs for long periods of time, so I am asking the experts of long-term sitting, you opinions.
Thanks for any help. Jeff Imparato
