Hey all, I need some input. My husband and I currently have offers from Swift, Schneider, and Prime as company team drivers. We had some issues with a misdemeanor and were turned down by a lot of companies so this is it. Looking for any input about teaming at these companies. I'm aware of their pay scales but wondering which companies take care of their teams and give them decent miles to run? Thanks!

Hi Tricia! Welcome to Trucking Truth! Where are you guys in your driving career? I guess you both just got your CDL licenses.

I drive (solo) for Swift, so I can't talk about team experience. After two years with them, though, I have no complaints. I believe there are many Swift and Prime drivers here, not so many Schneiders.

You can take a look at your options in Trucking Company Reviews. Yes, others will be along shortly to offer their opinions.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hey. thanks for the response. Husband has 8 months experience, I have 3 months. Honestly, I just went through Covenant's training and upgraded only to find out that they wouldn't hire my husband due to a public intoxication misdemeanor from 2014. I had no idea that would be an issue with so many companies, but it is.

Travis sound surprised:

Oh, yes! Most of the requirements (concerning your driving record and recreational drug history) are up to the company. Some companies are realllll picky.

I know you're not talking felony here, but check this out: Can I get a driving job with a felony or DUI , or tickets?

Take a look at Wil-Trans. Just started here (I'm new to the industry). I LOVE IT. Nothing but great recommendations.

Wil-Trans:

Darrel Wilson bought his first tractor in 1980 at age 20, but, being too young to meet OTR age requirements, he leased the truck out and hired a driver.

Through growth and acquisition, Wil-Trans now employs over 200 drivers, and has a long-standing partnership with Prime, Inc. to haul their refrigerated freight. The family of businesses also includes Jim Palmer Trucking and O & S Trucking.

Unfortunately, Wil-Trans wouldn't hire us. That's why I'm just asking about those three companies.

I dont know where you call home, but try calling West Side Transport if you are in the midwest, Atlanta metro area, or PA/CT. We arent a team focused company but they do us really nice. Currently only 2 teams out of 550 trucks.

The worst they could say is no. Because you dont have 6 mos experience you would have to go with a trainer for 30 days under the student driver program for those who just completed cdl school.
