Werner is one of the major companies that hires out of Florida, but I can tell you from personal experience that it is often difficult getting freight into Florida for home time and even more so getting freight coming back out.

Hey, magick. Would you be kind and elaborate on this statement of yours. Possibly reword it in layman's terms for me. Hometime is not my top priority, by the way, being that I'm pretty much a freebird.

Nice to meet you, Old school. Greatly appreciate the anecdote. Your words of wisdom do not fall on deaf ears. Personally speaking I do not have a preference whether I fall into a SOLO or TEAM training set-up. I came across these options when researching companies here on TT and I simply wanted the forum to respond.....and respond it has! I pray to the heavens that when it comes time for me to step into that trainers truck that it will be a human who is as eager to bestow their knowledge & wisdom on to me as I am to absorb their teachings.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

When you go home, they get you load heading into your area. Werner doesn't have a lot of freight going into Florida and they have even less coming back out. They generally get me home on time, though sometimes i get there a day late.

The real impact this tends to have on me is sometimes they have a hard time finding something to get me back out of Florida when my home time is over.

That depends on your company system. At Swift, trainees are paid by the hour: On Duty Driving and On Duty Not Driving time. The miles, all of them, go to the trainer. The Driving time is what gets you out of training when you hit 400 miles.

Hey, Errol. Is ON DUTY when the trainee is behind the wheel and using his personal clock? Also, without prying too much what were the wages like? No offense taken should you not wish to divulge. What is considered ON DUTY TIME NOT DRIVING and is there any time when you do not get paid whatsoever?
