I'm definitely wanting to start my career/lifestyle in Tanker, but unfortunately Tanker companies require to be older than 21. So with that being said, I want to start out in flatbed. I've been looking at System TS, BTC, Decker Truck Lines, and PGT. If anyone want to share any helpful information, please feel free to do so. Thanks!

Welcome Joshua. The best place for you to start is with our Truck Driver's Career Guide. It covers all kinds of information about getting your truck driving career underway including how to choose a company and what it takes to be successful out there.

The subject says "CDL Graduate" so if you have your CDL already you should go ahead and apply to as many companies as possible. No sense in spending a month evaluating all these different companies if you don't know who is even willing to hire you or not. Get your applications in, see who is willing to offer you an opportunity, and pick the company you feel suits you best.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I'm assuming from your post, that you are UNDER 21?

Most companies DON'T HIRE UNDER 21 - not even flatbed - because you can ONLY DRIVE IN YOUR HOME STATE until you are 21.
