Pensions are all but gone unless you work in government. I know Sysco Foodservice still gives them after 20 years in operations (warehouse, drivers) but good luck being able to do that work for that long. When I got hired I was told pension is 500 a month. Definitely not enough to survive on but it helps.
Hello all! I'm curious about pensions. Do most trucking companies still offer pensions or just the 401K? Pensions are better since they are with one until death whereas the 401K is only good until the savings runs out. I looked up CR England and it seemed they only offer a 401K but I didn't look too deep so I may have missed something.
And if there are companies that still offer pensions, how long does one work/drive for the company before he/she is qualified for it?
Thanks!
FedEx offers a 401k match. I think it's 50% of the first 6% of each paycheck I contribute. But they also offer a pension benefit. I received mail that said my pension benefit for the first year of my employment was $1,000. Considering I didn't expect it, I was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks to both of you. The FedEx sounds like something I could look into in the future.
